Quick Notice From PRINCOF To All Teacher Trainees in COE

OUTCOME OF PRINCOF MEETING WITH EDUCATION MINISTER

Good evening entire incumbent students of BACE🌹🌹.

Please this isn’t one of my usual updates but rather a briefing on issues discussed with the education minister last week.

REOPENING AND START OF 2021/2022 ACADEMIC YEAR

Dear all, a date hasn’t been fixed yet. A committee was set up to draft a calendar for the next academic year.

ADMISSIONS
GOG wants CEOs to defer admissions until the ongoing WASSCE results are released.

CEOs however feel they have enough applications to go ahead with admissions. The committee mentioned in 1 will look into the same issue.

CONDITIONS OF SERVICE (CoS)
Perhaps CETAG has the latest and fullest file on this. But the minister promised to carry our proposal on the CoS to the cabinet on 15/09/21. No feedback yet.

ROADMAP
The wholesale case of all CEOs becoming University Colleges is no longer tenable.

But big and old colleges e.g.Akropong (170 years old), St. John Bosco’s (91 years old), BACE, etc may join together to form university colleges.

These UCs may then run other programs aside from education e.g. Diplomas in engineering, medical and health practice, agriculture, etc.

FALLING STANDARDS
The issue of students coming to colleges with required results but ill-prepared came up.

Notably, some students from the JHS to SHS can’t read and write well but get there because of the Free SHS.

The Hon. Minister suggested an Additional English Language (AEL) course to boost the reading and compression skills of such students. I am sure tutors identify with this easily.

Students will be examined to sieve out candidates for the AEL course.

ONLINE/VIRTUAL T&L
Teaching and learning will be largely face-to-face this year because of the challenges with online learning in the 2020/21 academic year.

CONCLUSION
The above were the key, relevant and insensitive issues of the meeting.

Fast forward, management will send out a circular on the reopening and admissions to staff and students this week.

Thus: Reopening and Admissions dates aren’t definite now but will be communicated when they are finally determined.

I am sure this will forestall the stress due to students and prospective students persistently calling or texting staff for feed in.

Thanks🙌🏼🙌🏼

Good evening and have a beautiful and fruitful midweek!
