Breaking: Mobile Money Agents to Embark On Strike Action Over 1.75% E-Levey

The Management of the Mobile Money Agents Association Of Ghana has served notices of intended strike action over the introduction of 1.75 Electronic Transactions Levy.
“As an Association that implements all Mobile Money policies through our operators, we see this levy as very regressive and critical to the survival of our businesses.” The association added

According to the Association, All Mobile Money Agents across the country will on Thursday, December 23, 2021, embark on a nationwide demonstration.
As a result, All Mobile Money Agents’ services will not be accessible across the country. All Agents will go on strike hence all outlets will remain closed.

It will be recalled that the Minister Of Finance, Ken Ofori Atta during the presentation of the 2022 Government Economic Policy announced the introduction of the new Electronic Transactions Levy which will take effect in January 2022.
The introduction of the E-Levy has received a lot of resistance from Civil Society Organizations as well as Ghanaians.
When the E-Levy bill is fully passed, the government will charge 1.75% on all mobile transactions.
