Government Urged To Ban Teacher Trainee And NABCO Allowances
Mr. Dennis Owusu Sarkodie, the lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), has urged the Government of Ghana to cancel the payment of Allowances to Teacher Trainees and Nation Builders Corps (NABCO) Personnels.
The lecturer said this during an interview on Oyerepa Breakfast show, on Tuesday.
According to him, the government can use those monies to create jobs for citizens.
“Money that is used to pay all the students can be channeled into factories and works that can give them permanent work instead of the one-year payment,” He added.
Meanwhile, Teacher Trainee Allowance has not been paid for the past six months which has compelled the Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana to give the government three weeks ultimatum to pay the allowances owed to them.
The payment of the teacher trainee and Nursing allowance was one of the major promises of the New Patriotic Party before the 2016 General Election.
The government promised to restore the teacher and nursing trainee allowance within 90 days upon assuming office.
