The management of the Ghana Education Service and Teacher Unions have agreed on new contact hours for basic schools in Ghana.

The new contact hours came after Ghana Education Service restored the trimester systems for basic schools.

According to the new agreed Contact hours with GES, instructional hours will begin from 7:00 am-3:30 Pm or
7:30 am -4:00 pm or 8:00 am -3:00 pm

Negotiated Academic Calendar For Basic Schools

Following the concerns raised by Teacher Unions on the 2021/2022 Academic Calendar regarding the semester system contact hours and the number of weeks forty-three (43) and after the negotiations between the Teacher Unions and GES.
The following were arrived at;

Previous Contact Hours
I. 7:00 am-3:30 Pm or
II. 7:30 am -4:00 pm
III. 8:00 am -3:00 pm

Negotiated and Agreed Contact Hours with GES
I. 7:00 am-2:00 pm or
II. 7:30 am-2:30 pm or
III. 8:00 am -3:00 pm

•The academic Calendar has been restored to the trimester system
•Number of weeks reviewed from forty-three (43) weeks to forty (40) weeks.
