The demand for secondary education has increased as a result of high completion rates at the Junior high School level. In response to this, several new public schools have been provided, whilst facilities in existing schools have been upgraded.
Trends in school placement from the Computer Schools Selection and Placement System (CSSPS)
indicate some disparity in the selection of schools. Students overwhelmingly choose the popular but few traditionally high-performing schools thereby leading to oversubscription of these schools.
Many schools that have significantly improved in recent years remain unknown and undersubscribed.
We believe that this anomaly is partly due to the lack of information available to students and parents.

History of Nifa Senior High School
The first batch of seventy (70) students, all boys, was enrolled on 16th October 1971. It became extremely necessary to admit girls due to a great demand for girls’ education. The first batch of girls was twenty (20) and was admitted in October 1972 and was housed in a nearby hostel. Initial idea was that the school would serve the immediate community but the first batch came from all over southern Ghana.
Later, the case was strongly made for a name change to reflect the Traditional Area, Nifa, one of three Political Divisions in Akwapeman. This, plus the fact that Benkum and Adonten already had schools named after them made the argument win the day.
The name change was accordingly effected in 1973 and Nifa Senior High was born.
