Colleges Of Education To Become Autonomous Universities. Accredited Public Colleges in the country will soon become autonomous institutions.

Colleges Of Education Affiliated With UDS-Tertiary Connect

Dr.Yaw Osei Adutwum, Minister Of Education has disclosed that Some accredited public colleges of education in the country will soon be upgraded to full-fledged university status.

According to the Minister Of Education, this move of converting some public colleges of education is part of government efforts to ensure that such universities would be able to operate on their own and run their programs towards the development and transformation of the nation.

“After operating for between 50 and 100 years, why must such colleges continue to be affiliated to other universities although they qualify to be autonomous,” he said.

The Honorable Minister Of Education announced this when the new leadership of the Ghana National Association of Teachers paid a courtesy call on him in Accra today.

Commendation

The education minister commended the teacher unions in the country, especially GNAT, for their role in promoting the development of education in the country.

“My focus now is to ensure that teachers get the best of support in capacity building as well as enhancing their welfare,” he said.

“There is no need to use the media for the resolution of challenges but rather use it to promote development initiatives for the general populace to appreciate what was beinglaborto improved the education sector across the country”

Affiliation Of Public Colleges Of Education

It will be recalled that in October 2018, the Government of Ghana with the approval of the Cabinet Ministers has rolled out new Bachelor Of Education (B.Ed) programs to improve upon the quality of teachers produced in Ghana since the development of every country depends on teachers.

According to the New Bachelor Of Education Programs, Each Colleges Of Education is required by law to be under the mentorship of the five Public Universities in Ghana namely: the University Of Cape Coast, University of Education, Winneba, University Of Ghana, University Of Development Studies and University and University Of Professional Studies.

These mentorship universities will mount academic programs for Colleges of education affiliated to them that are globally required to train a 21st Century teacher.
