List Of Technical Universities in Ghana and their Courses
Technical Universities in Ghana were formally known as Polytechnics. This was after they were given accreditation by the National Accreditation Board. Before the creation of the sixteen regions, each of the former ten regions in the country has a technical university, which means there are currently ten technical universities in Ghana.
List Of All Ten (10) Technical Universities In Ghana.
• Accra Technical University (ATU)
The Accra Technical University was first to be established in Ghana in the year 1949 as a technical school. It was later commissioned in the year 1957 as a technical institute. The institute was later renamed Accra Polytechnic in the year 1963. The institution was later commissioned into a tertiary status under the Polytechnic Law of 1992 (PNDC 321) and it became operative in the year 1993/94 academic year.
• Ho Technical University (HTU)
The institution started in the year 1968 as a technical institute in the capital of the Volta Region, Ghana. The institution achieved Polytechnic status in the year 1986 and later on in the year 1993, it became a tertiary institution under the Polytechnic Law of 1992 (PNDC 321).
• Kumasi Technical University (KTU)
It was established in Kumasi in the year 1954 as a technical institute. It became Kumasi technical university under The Technical University Act 2016, (Act 922).
• Cape Coast Technical University (CCTU)
It was formerly a second-cycle institution under the Ghana Education Service (GES) which was later converted to a Polytechnic under the Polytechnic Law of 1992 (PNDC 321).
• Tamale Technical University (TATU)
The institution was formerly a technical institute. Recently, that was 2018, it received technical university status under The Technical University Act 2016, (Act 922).
• Bolgatanga Technical University (BTU)
It was established in the year 1999 under the Polytechnic Law of 1992 (PNDC 321). It was amended later in 2007 with an Act of Parliament (Act 745).
• Koforidua Technical University (KTU)
It was established in 1997. Its main aim is to produce high-level and skilled resources for the growth of the country. It is categorized as a grade ‘A’ school.
• Takoradi Technical University (TTU)
In 1954, this noble institution was established. Later in the year 2016 converted into a university under The Technical University Act 2016, (Act 922).

• Sunyani Technical University (STU)
It was established as a technical institute in 1967. It awards diplomas to its graduates. It was later converted into a university under The Technical University Act 2016, (Act 922).
• Wa Technical University (WTU)
Just like the others, it is a public technical university in the Upper West region. It is well known to be called “Dr. Hilla Limann Technical University.
