Inauguration of Governing Councils in 10 Colleges of Education

The Hon. Minister for Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum has kick-started the inauguration of Governing Councils for Colleges of Education in the country.

The inauguration is set to cover ten (10) Colleges of Education (CoE) today Tuesday 2nd August 2022.

In the year 2019, the Former Education Minister Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh inaugurated eight (8) Governing Councils in Accra.

His motive was in line with the Colleges of Education Act 2012 (Act 847). In the act, it was spelled out clearly that the Governing Councils are charged to approve the educational programs which will be developed by the academic board.

FUNCTIONS OF THE GOVERNING COUNCIL

Their mandate will also be stretched to the prescribing of terms and conditions for the admission of students who wish to study a course in college.

Furthermore, they will play the role of overseeing all internal organization, variation, and supervising of academic divisions, departments, and the various faculties within the Colleges of Education (CoE).

Again, another aim of the council is the finance and assets management towards a better yield including the consideration and approval of annual estimates of income & expenditure of the Colleges of Education.

Awards institute, fellowships, and scholarship schemes also have to be worked on by the same coverghana council to improve the new 4-year Degree study in the Colleges of Education.

This year, in August 2022, ten (10) colleges of Education are set for their inauguration.
