Government Told To Use COE Feeding Budget To Recruit More Teachers In 2022

The Executive Director Of Africa Education Watch, Kofi Asare has told the government to use GH¢250 million allocated to be spent on payment of teacher trainee feeding components to recruit more teachers in the education sector in 2022.

“Teacher trainees in the various accredited public Colleges of Education across the country are mature enough to cater for their feeding while in school”. Mr.Kofi Asare said.

According to the Executive Director of the Africa Education Watch, If he were to be an advisor to this government, he would recommend that the GH¢ 250 million allocated in the 2022 Budget to be spent on trainees feeding allowance in 2022 be rather used to employ an extra 7000 teachers.

COE Feeding Component

Teacher allowance is paid per Semester, comprising four months per semester and Eight months in the academic year.
The total amount paid to each teacher trainee per month is GH¢400.00 of which there will be a deduction of GH¢196.00 at source (SLTF) as payment for the feeding fee per student

Currently, The Ministry of Finance has given financial clearance to enable Ghana Education Service to recruit over 16,000 newly trained teachers from Colleges of Education.
However, the Minister Of Education Dr.Yaw Osei Adutwum has said that the government is planning to recruit university graduates in 2022.
