Licensure Examination should be taught as a course in Colleges Of Education -TTAG
Mr. Jonathan Dzunu, TTAG President suggested a successful way out for Licensure Examinations introduced three (3) years ago.
Speaking at the just ended General Assembly (G.A) held at St. Francis College of Education (FRANCO), Hohoe Mr. Jonathan added his voice to the troubling nature of the Licensure Examination saying that a critical look must be looked at the exams.
He suggested that the Licensure Examination should be incorporated into the college courses /or it must be a component of the courses studied at all the 46 Accredited Colleges of Education in Ghana.
Mr. Dzunu’s motive behind the suggestion is geared towards addressing the drastic failure rate of student teachers when they sit for the Licensure Examination since its inception.
Emphatically, he called the authority in charge of the Licensure Examination, The National Teaching Standard (NTS), and National Curriculum Framework to consider the introduction of the exams as part of the college course structure because the majority of the teacher trainees do not have enough about the teaching standards and its framework in a whole.
Further, he explained that when Licensure Examination is added to college courses, the dedication of adequate time and resources towards its teaching will give the trainees an in-depth knowledge of the whole course before sitting for it finally which will decrease the massive failure.
Data on sitting and writing of the Licensure Examination has it that, from the past three (3) years out of the 128,483 candidates who sat for the exams 69 percent of them passed which means they have been employed.

Teacher Trainees To Be Exempted From Writing Licensure Examination
That, means the remaining 31 percent are still living restlessly at home after going through a lot in college. The National Teaching Standard (NTS) and National Curriculum Framework should consider the introduction of the Licensure Examination into colleges as a course that will be well structured to equip teachers enough about the teaching standards and its framework as a whole.

What are Licensure exams?
Licensure exams is a legal and professional exam written by would-be professionals. It is a proof of work document expected to be acquired by a professional. In Ghana, it is organized by the National Teaching Council (NTC).
Just like how other professionals like doctors are expected to write exams before finally being employed, NTC is replicating the same procedure in the education or/ teaching profession professional who dent the noble profession.
