Teacher Unions Call Off Strike, Full Details
The Leaders of the Various Pre-tertiary Teacher Unions have called off their industrial strike action.
The Strike was called off today after the Government of Ghana represented by the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), Ministry of Finance (MoF), Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations (MELR), Ministry of Education, and Ministry of National Security has agreed to pay 15% Cost of Living Allowance, COLA being Demanded by the Teacher Unions.

It will be recalled that the Leadership of four pre-tertiary Teacher Unions namely; NAGRAT, GNAT, CCT, and TEWU on Monday, 4th July 2022 declared a nationwide strike over the failure of the government to pay them Cost Of Living Allowance popularly known as COLA.
AGREEMENT ON COST OF LIVING ALLOWANCE (COLA)
THIS AGREEMENT is made this 14th day of July 2022
BETWEEN
The Government of Ghana, represented by the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), Ministry of Finance (MoF), Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations (MELR), Ministry of Education, and Ministry of National Security (hereinafter called “The Employer’) of the one part,
AND
Organized Labour comprises Identifiable worker Unions and Associations within the Public Service of Ghana (hereinafter called (‘Labour’) of the other part.
Whereas the parties negotiated on the Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) for workers in the Public Service and reached a consensus for 2022 as follows:
TERMS OF AGREEMENT
- That the Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) will be paid at a rate of 15% of base pay.
- That the effective date for payment of the COLA is 1 July 2022. 3. That all industrial actions underway and threats of same will be called off immediately and that Labour would return to work forthwith.
IN WITNESS of the Parties herein have set their names and hands this 14th day of July 2022
