UEW Grading system and How To Calculate GPA, Check Details
University of Winneba (UEW) has a well-structured grading system that assists them in grading their students for the best academic work.
Grades obtained in courses throughout your study at the university will determine the class you will graduate with. The grading system has Third Class as the lowest class and First Class highest in the tertiary system.
Two (2) terms are involved in the grading system namely: Grade Point Average (GPA) and Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA).
The Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) is the final summary of GPA over the semesters/academic cumulatively ( which means in addition).

80-100 equates to Ato (4.0)
75-79 equates to B+to (3.5)
70-74 equates to Bio (3.0)
65-69 equates to Cto + (2.5)
60-64 equates C to (2.0)
55-59 equates D+to (1.5)
50-54 equates D to (1.0)
0-49 E equates Fail
UEW Grading System
A CGPA of;
(a) 3.5 – 4.0 is marked as First Class.
(b) 3.0 – 3.49 is marked as Second Class.
(c) 2.5 – 2.99 is marked as Second Class Lower.
(d) 2.0 – 2.49 is marked as Third Class.
In addition to the “completed” work, they have a system known as Non-completion of course work. It is used to mark or denote non-completed academic work.

- IC means Incomplete
- W means Drop after Deadline
- UD means Unofficial Drop
- X means Disqualification
- Y means Work still in Progress
- Z means Examination Malpractice
