The approved 2022/2023 Academic calendar for Basic Schools by Ghana Education Service (GES) has been released ahead of the upcoming academic year.
Ghana Education Service has approved the next working academic calendar for all Basic Schools under their auspices.
Breakdown Of GES 2023 Academic calendar for basic schools
In the released academic calendar, 36 weeks have been allocated for academic work throughout the next academic year, 2022/2023.
The three (3) terms in the next academic year will last for a period of three (3) months which is equivalent to 12 weeks each.
That is, First Term will last for 12 weeks, Second Term will also last for another 12 weeks. Finally, the Third Term will also last for 12 weeks.

The arrangement covers the four (4) Basic Schools which are: Nursery, Kindergarten/KG, Basic 1 to Basic 6, and JHS.
School Reopening Date For Basic Schools
The First Term will open on 9th January 2023, Second Term will open on the 10th day of April 2023. Finally, the last term, the Third Term will open on 10th July 2023.
The vacations per the academic calendar for the three (3) terms will not exceed three (3) weeks.
Vacation Periods For Basic Schools
The first term’s vacation will kickstart from 31st March 2023 till
the 10th day of April 2023.
The Second term’s vacation is also scheduled to start on 28th June 2023 and end on the 10th of July 2023.
