Infrastructure Deficit In Colleges of Education and other Matters Arising

There are challenges of accommodation in the 46 Public Colleges of Education.
According to the Colleges of Education Weekly Journal, most of the colleges have turned their dining halls and Science Laboratories into lecture halls and halls of residence due to infrastructure deficit.
Teacher Trainees are now forced to take academic work via virtual means and face-to-face lectures what the school called blended learning.
With the Colleges of Education now running Bachelor of Education Programs instead of the Diploma Programs, a lot is required of the colleges to produce well-rounded teachers to improve the quality of teaching and learning at the pre-tertiary level.

Speaking to Joynews, The Editor of the Colleges of Education Journal, Larry Agbador said that blended learning is as a result of infrastructure deficit in Colleges of Education.
‘ The situation on the ground in the Colleges is still the same as we speak, we have level 100 and 200 Trainees writing their end of semester examination while the level 300 students are in the house receiving tuition online’.

Use of Internally Generated Funds

Some Colleges are doing their best by using their internally generated funds to raise structures to solve the infrastructure deficit.
A typical example of a college using their IGF is Gabagaba College of Education in Tamale, Northern Region.

Blended Learning In Colleges of Education

Blended Learning is a style of Education in which students learn via electronic media as well as traditional face-to-face teaching.
students are worried about the blended learning introduced in the colleges.
According to them, the challenges of poor network connection, high cost of data among others should be dealt with urgently.

Assurances From Government

The Vice-President of Ghana, Dr.Mahamudu Bawumia has told the leadership of the Trainees Trainees Association of Ghana that the government will soon address the infrastructural deficit in the Colleges of Education.
He made this known when the leadership paid a visit to him at the Jubilee House.
