About UPSA

Formerly known as the Institute of Professional Studies, the University of Professional Studies Accra was founded in the year 1965 as a private business professional institution.

The university remains the only public institution in Ghana which has the mandate to offer both academic degrees and provide tuition for business professional qualifications.

With great fortitude and hard work, the university has its grading system and in this article, we will show you UPSA’s grading system and how to calculate the GPA.

About UPSA Grading System And How To Calculate GPA

The grading system of UPSA is used to assess the semester examination performance of students based on their average points scored in the said semester.

The grading system of UPSA is as follows:
Numerical Mark, Letter Grade and followed by their respective Interpretations.
80-100, A, Excellent
75-79, B+, Very Good
70-74, B, Good
65-69, B-, Above Average
60-64, C+, Average
55-59, C, Below Average
50-54, C-, Marginal Pass
45-49, D, Unsatisfactory
0-44, F, Fail
-, X, Absent
-, Z, Disqualification
-, IC, Incomplete
-, ADT, Auditing

Note: The pass grades of UPSA start from grade A down to grade C whereas grades D to Z are failure grades.

Grade D is considered an unsatisfactory grade for only General Education Courses though it is a failing grade. Therefore with this new policy, students can only get a maximum of three (3) ‘Ds’ in only General Education Courses (GEC) and can still graduate. This is supposed to apply to only General Education Courses in level 100 and not Common Professional Components (CPCs) courses.

Students with grades X, Z, and IC will not be allowed to graduate since it denotes non-completion of the courses taken.

At the end of the semester examination, the marks will be obtained by 65% of the grade, and Continuous Assessment constitutes 35% of the course taken.
