The demand for secondary education has increased as a result of high completion rates at the Junior high School level. In response to this, several new public schools have been provided, whilst facilities in existing schools have been upgraded.
Trends in school placement from the Computer Schools Selection and Placement System (CSSPS)
indicate some disparity in the selection of schools. Students overwhelmingly choose the popular but few traditionally high-performing schools thereby leading to oversubscription of these schools.
Many schools that have significantly improved in recent years remain unknown and undersubscribed.
We believe that this anomaly is partly due to the lack of information available to students and parents.

ACHIEVEMENTS
The Civic Club of the school for two consecutive years came first in a competition organized by the National Commission of Civic Education on “Project Citizen” and “Electronic Constitution” for schools in Sekondi/Takoradi Zone -2016/2017.
Seven students were among ten best cadets at a leadership training programor Senior High Schools at Asankragua – 2016.
The girls have been 1st for four consecutive years in the Sekondi / Takoradi Zonal Inter-School Athletic Competition, 2012 – 2015.
1st place in a debate organized for Western Region Second Cycle Schools as part of the 58th Independence Day Celebration.

DESCRIPTION
Shama Senior High School is located at Yabiw Junction, about 3 km from Shama Junction. It is a co-educational institution founded in January 1991 as part of the educational reforms of 1987. It started on the premises of Shama Secondary Technical Fisheries School, a private second cycle institution founded by the late Mr. Edward K. Dontoh in the early 1970s. In 1990, the family of the late Mr. Dontoh released his structure to the community for the commencement of Shama Secondary School. The Government provided additional structures for the smooth running of the school.
