44,000 Teachers Quit Teaching In 2021-New Report

The Chief Executive Officer of the Africa Education Watch has raised an alarm about the huge number of teachers who quit teaching last year.

According to new research conducted by Africa Education Watch, 44,000 basic school teachers quit teaching in 2021 alone.

Provisional data available from the EMIS indicates that about 44,000 (over 15%) teachers left basic schools in 2021 with no replacement. While the ongoing efforts to recruit about 16,000 teachers are commendable, it does not even address the deficit halfway.
