NTC Launches 2022 Ghana Teacher Teacher Prize
The management of the National Teaching Council in collaboration with the Ministry Of Education has on Wednesday, August 24, 2022, officially launched the 2022 Ghana Teacher Prize at the Bediako Conference Hall at the GNAT Headquarters in Accra.
The 2022 Ghana Teacher Prize was launched under the theme “the Transformation of Education begins with Teachers”.
About 2022 Ghana Teacher Prize
According to the National Teaching Council, the 2022 Ghana Teacher Prize is the 27th edition since its establishment in 1995 and the 5th since its rebranding from Best Teacher Award to Ghana Teacher Prize in 2018 to conform to global standards.
Dignitaries Present At The Occasion
Among the dignitaries present at the launch were the Honourable Minister for Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, the Honourable Deputy Minister for Education in charge of Technical and Vocational Education, and Mrs. Gifty Twum Ampofo.
Also present were heads of agencies under the Ministry of Education, Dr. Christian Addai-Poku, Registrar of the National Teaching Council, Prof. Kwasi Opoku Amankwah, Director-General of the Ghana Education Service and the Administrator of the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund), Dr. Richard Boadu. The leadership of the various teacher unions was also present.
Speech From The Minister Of Education
The Minister Of Education Hon. Yaw Osei Adutwum has commended the management of the National Teaching Council for bringing this program to honor hardworking teachers in the country.
“The Ghana Teacher Prize is aimed at celebrating and honoring teachers for their efforts and letting them know their efforts are being appreciated by the President and the country as a whole because, without teachers, teaching and learning will not be able to go on.” the honoring of Education that said.
In his address, the Registrar of the National Teaching Council, Dr. Christian Addai-Poku, acknowledged the tremendous roles teachers play in the socio-economic development of the country. He added that the Ghana Teacher Prize is a way of motivating teachers for their selfless service to mother Ghana.
Dr. Addai-Poku announced that to acknowledge and appreciate outstanding leadership traits in Ghana’s educational sector, a new award category has been added which is the ‘Teacher in Leadership’ award. The Most Outstanding Teacher in Leadership will get a saloon car, First Runner-up gets a cash prize, Second Runner-up gets a cash prize.

Other major categories of the awards are the Most Outstanding Teacher who gets a 3-bedroom apartment, with the First Runner-up getting a 4×4 Pickup vehicle, and the Sea cond Runner-up also going home with a Saloon Car.
For the Non-teaching category, the Best Non-teaching Staff will be awarded a car, the First Runnegets cash prize, and the Second Runner-up who gets a cash prize.
The National Teaching Council unveiled the Top 23 Finalists for this year’s Ghana Teacher Prize. The winners of this precious award scheme will be an uncle at a National Durbar on October, 20, which coincides with World Teachers’ Day.
This year’s celebration will take place in Tamale, the Northern Regional capital. There will be a two-day symposium that will offer the platform for short-listed awardees to showcase their groundbreaking experiences before the national durbar. It also offers the platform to discuss topical education issues.
